Crude oil futures end marginally lower on Thursday

Crude oil futures ended marginally lower on Thursday despite data showing a much larger than expected drop in crude inventories in the U.S. in the week ended August 30. Data from the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) said crude oil inventories dropped by 6.9 million barrels last week after slipping by 0.8 million barrels in the previous week. Street had expected crude oil inventories to dip by 0.9 million.

Benchmark crude oil futures for October delivery fell $0.05 or 0.07 percent to settle at $69.15 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Brent crude for November delivery lost $0.01 or 0.01 percent to settle at $72.69 a barrel on London's Intercontinental Exchange.
