India's export of castor oil rises around 8% in September 2024

Solvent Extractors' Association of India (SEA) has said that India's export of castor oil rises 7.86% to 53,625 metric tonnes (MT) (Provisional) in the month of September 2024 as compared to 49,717 MT (Provisional) in the same month last year. In the value terms, India exported castor oil worth Rs 668.96 crore in September 2024 as against Rs 633.55 crore in September 2023, i.e. up by 5.59%.  

In the month of August 2024, castor oil export stood at 44,607 MT while its value stood at Rs 547.80 crore.  According to SEA data, in nine months of 2024 (January to September) export of castor oil stood at 549,428 MT, while in value terms, it was registered at Rs 6688.78 crore in January to September 2024 period. 

India is the largest producer of castor seed in the world and Gujarat is the largest in India. Castor oil is an important ingredient for the global specialty chemical industry as it is the only commercial source of hydroxylate fatty acid.
