India's export of castor oil rises marginally in October 2024

Solvent Extractors' Association of India (SEA) has said that India's export of castor oil rises 1.55% to 48,209 metric tonnes (MT) (Provisional) in the month of October 2024 as compared to 47,473 MT (Provisional) in the same month last year. In the value terms, India exported castor oil worth Rs 601.65 crore in October 2024 as against Rs 604.50 crore in October 2023, i.e. marginally down by 0.47%.  

In the month of September 2024, castor oil export stood at 53,625 MT while its value stood at Rs 668.96 crore.  According to SEA data, in ten months of 2024 (January to October) export of castor oil stood at 6,05,055 MT, while in value terms, it was registered at Rs 7,382.66 crore in January to October 2024 period. 

India is the largest producer of castor seed in the world and Gujarat is the largest in India. Castor oil is an important ingredient for the global specialty chemical industry as it is the only commercial source of hydroxylate fatty acid.
