India's import of vegetable oils declines 17% in July 2025: SEA
Aug-16-2025

Solvent Extractors’ Association of India in latest report has said that India's import of vegetable oils (edible oil & non- edible oil) fell 16.68% to 15,79,041 tonnes in July 2025 as compared to 18,95,076 tonnes in July 2024, mainly due to a fall in shipments of palm oil, both refined and crude.

The country imported 15,48,041 tonnes of edible oil in July this year as against 18,40,062 tonnes in the year-ago period. The fall in imports of edible oils in July this year was because of a sharp decline in inward shipments of refined palm oil. The increase in import duty difference between crude palm oil and refined palmolein from 8.25% to 19.25% with effect from May 31, 2025, has made the import of refined oil uneconomical.

Refined palmolein import fell to 5,000 tonnes during July 2025 compared to 163,540 tonnes in June 2025. Import of crude palm oil fell to 8,55,695 tonnes in July 2025, while the inward shipments of crude sunflower oil dipped to 2,00,010 tonnes in July 2025.

During the first nine months of the current oil marketing year, which started in November 2024, the total vegetable oil imports reached 11,013,634 tonnes, down by 9.16% from 12,124,182 tonnes in the corresponding period of the preceding year.
