Non-life insurers report marginal rise in gross direct premium underwritten for September

The General Insurance Council in its latest data (Provisional) has showed that non-life insurers reported 2.09% rise in gross direct premium underwritten at Rs 26923.67 crore for the month of September 2025 (excluding specialised companies - Agricultural Insurance Company of India and ECGC) as compared to Rs 26373.13 crore in the September 2024. 

Of the total, general insurance companies, with market share of 83.65%, garnered gross direct premium underwritten of Rs 23430.96 crore in the month under review as compared to Rs 22985.19 crore in the corresponding month of previous year, registering a growth of 1.94%. Among all, premium of Acko General Insurance up by 54.40%, Navi General Insurance up by 37.97%, Bajaj Allianz General Insurance Co up by 31.35%, United India Insurance Co up by 23.36% and Liberty General Insurance Co up by 21.68%. 

Standalone health insurers, with market share of 11.88%, garnered gross direct premium underwritten of Rs 3492.71 crore in September 2025 as compared to Rs 3387.94 crore in September 2024, i.e. up by 3.09%. Among all, Aditya Birla Health Insurance Co up by 11.42%, Star Health & Allied Insurance Co up by 3.36%, Care Health Insurance up by 1.79%, while ManipalCigna Health Insurance Co down by 6.98%, Niva bupa health insurance company down by 1.45%. 

Specialised insurers showed growth of 261.52% in gross direct premium underwritten at Rs 4253.92 crore in September 2025 as compared to Rs 1176.66 crore in the September 2024. Within the specialised insurers, premium of Agricultural Insurance Company of India up by 295.24%, while premium of ECGC up by 0.22% in the month of September this year.
