Life insurers report 15% rise in new business premiums in September 2025

Life Insurance Council in its latest data (Provisional) has showed that life insurers posted 14.81% year-on-year (Y-o-Y) rise in new business premiums (NBP) in the month of September 2025 at Rs 40206.67 crore as compared to Rs 35020.28 crore in the year-ago period. Out of which, the private insurers’ premium increased by 17.74% Y-o-Y to Rs 17249.58 crore in September 2025 from Rs 14651.02 crore. On the other hand, Life Insurance Corporation of India’s premium increased 12.70% to Rs 22957.09 crore in September 2025 from Rs 20369.26 crore in September 2024. 

Of the total premium collected by life insurance companies in the month of September 2025, individual single premium stood at Rs 4515.78 crore as against Rs 5141.99 crore in 2024, i.e. down by 12.18%. Individual Non-Single premium declined 5.77% to Rs 10837.11 crore in September 2025 as compared to Rs 11500.11 crore in September 2024, Group Single Premium stood at Rs 22574.81 crore in September 2025. Group Non-Single Premium stood at Rs 623.75 crore in September 2025 and Group Yearly Renewable Premium increased to Rs 1655.23 crore in September 2025. 

Among the private insurance companies, SBI Life Insurance Company reported 32.14% Y-o-Y growth in premium to Rs 3953.22 crore in September 2025, HDFC Life Insurance Company’s premium stood at Rs 2942.30 crore in September 2025, up by 10.18% over September 2024, Aditya Birla Sun Life Insurance Company posted 38.67% Y-o-Y growth to Rs 1421.67 crore in September 2025, Bajaj Life Insurance Company reported 30.61% growth in premiums to 1374.58 crore in September 2025 and Axis Max Life Insurance’s premium stood at Rs 1267.89 crore in September 2025.
