Copper futures settle higher despite strong dollar overseas

Copper futures settled higher on Wednesday even as the American currency strengthened against its major peers overseas after hawkish comments from Atlanta Fed President Bostic, who said he favored keeping interest rates steady. Meanwhile, optimism over an expected end to a US government shutdown supportive for copper’s upside move.

Copper futures for December delivery rose $0.0395 to settle at $5.1055 a pound on the Comex metals division of New York Mercantile Exchange. Copper on the London Metal Exchange was up by 1.08% at $10,944 a ton.
