Life insurers report 39% rise in new business premium in December 2025

Life Insurance Council in its latest data (Provisional) has showed that life insurers posted 39.49% year-on-year (Y-o-Y) rise in new business premium (NBP) in the month of December 2025 at Rs 42150.77 crore as compared to Rs 30218.71 crore in the year-ago period. Out of which, the private insurers’ premium increased by 24.93% Y-o-Y to Rs 20856.89 crore in December 2025 from Rs 16694.85 crore. On the other hand, Life Insurance Corporation of India’s premium increased 57.45% to Rs 21293.88 crore in December 2025 from Rs 13523.87 crore in December 2024. 

Of the total premium collected by life insurance companies in the month of December 2025, individual single premium stood at Rs 5767.67 crore as against Rs 4633.12 crore in 2024, i.e. up by 24.48%. Individual Non-Single premium surged 21.77% to Rs 15182.44 crore in December 2025 as compared to Rs 12467.51 crore in December 2024, Group Single Premium stood at Rs 19628.30 crore in December 2025. Group Non-Single Premium stood at Rs 336.54 crore in December 2025 and Group Yearly Renewable Premium increased to Rs 1235.82 crore in December 2025. 

Among the private insurance companies, SBI Life Insurance Company reported 19.39% Y-o-Y growth in premium to Rs 6336.96 crore in December 2025, HDFC Life Insurance Company’s premium stood at Rs 3108.40 crore in December 2025, up by 14.55% over December 2024. ICICI Prudential Life Insurance Company’s premium rose by 25.08% (Y-o-Y) at Rs 1945.23 crore in December 2025. Axis Max Life Insurance Company’s premium increased 24.98% (Y-o-Y) at Rs 1567.72 crore in December 2025. TATA AIA Life Insurance Company reported 16.46% (Y-o-Y) growth in premiums to 1347.48 crore in December 2025.
