India's edible oil production likely to reach at 9.6 MT in 2025-26 marketing year: IVPA
Feb-11-2026

Industry body -- Indian Vegetable Oil Producers' Association (IVPA) in its report said that India's edible oil production is likely to reach at 9.6 million tonnes (MT) in 2025-26 marketing year. The 2025-26 edible oil marketing year runs from October-September. Further, it noted that to meet domestic demand, India will have to import around 16.7 million tonnes of cooking oils. India mainly imports soyabean oil from Argentina and Brazil. Palm oil is imported from Malaysia and Indonesia. Of the total domestic demand, India has to import about 60 per cent of the quantity.

IVPA’s President Sudhakar Desai said that 2025-26 total imports are likely to comprise 8-8.5 million tonnes of palm oil imports, 5-5.5 million tonnes of soyabean oil, 2.8-3 million tonnes of sunflower oil, and around 2 lakh tonnes of other oils, including zero-duty imports routed through Nepal.

Palm oil imports have declined from over 10 million tonnes in 2021-22 to around 8 million tonnes. Desai said refining margins remain under pressure, constraining demand momentum. On trade policy, he said recently concluded FTAs and bilateral arrangements with partners such as the US, EU, Australia, UAE and SAFTA members have become integral to market pricing and sourcing decisions.
