Life insurers report 23% rise in new business premium in March 2026

Life Insurance Council in its latest data (Provisional) has showed that life insurers posted 23.49% year-on-year (Y-o-Y) rise in new business premium (NBP) in the month of March 2026 at Rs 75872.26 crore as compared to Rs 61439.08 crore in the year-ago period. Out of which, the private insurers’ premium increased by 32.73% Y-o-Y to Rs 32562.02 crore in March 2026 from Rs 24531.75 crore. On the other hand, Life Insurance Corporation of India’s premium increased 17.35% to Rs 43310.24 crore in March 2026 from Rs 36907.33 crore in March 2025. 

Of the total premium collected by life insurance companies in the month of March 2026, individual single premium stood at Rs 8356.87 crore as against Rs 7420.35 crore in March 2025, i.e. up by 12.62%. Individual Non-Single premium surged 8.21% to Rs 18714.14 crore in March 2026 as compared to Rs 17291.22 crore in January 2025, Group Single Premium stood at Rs 43060.31 crore in March 2026. Group Non-Single Premium stood at Rs 240.49 crore in March 2026 and Group Yearly Renewable Premium increased to Rs 5500.44 crore in March 2026. 

Among the private insurance companies, ICICI Prudential Life Insurance Company’s premium rose by 46.50% Y-o-Y at Rs 5581.05 crore in March 2026. HDFC Life Insurance Company reported 15.12% Y-o-Y growth in premiums to Rs 5612.59 crore in March 2026. SBI Life Insurance Company reported 26.44% Y-o-Y growth in premium to Rs 4894.88 crore in March 2026, Aditya Birla Sun Life Insurance’s premium increased 105.88% Y-o-Y at Rs 3137.82 crore in March 2026, Axis Max Life Insurance Company’s premium increased 11.11% Y-o-Y at Rs 2284.79 crore in March 2026.
