New business premium of life insurers sees 21% growth in July

Life Insurance Council in its latest data (Provisional) has showed that life insurers posted 20.66% year-on-year (Y-o-Y) rise in new business premium (NBP) in the month of July 2026 at Rs 47004.84 crore as compared to Rs 38958.05 crore in the same month a year-ago. Out of which, the private insurers’ premium increased by 16.34% Y-o-Y to Rs 19011.23 crore in July 2026 from Rs 16340.41 crore July 2025. On the other hand, Life Insurance Corporation of India’s premium increased by 23.77% to Rs 27993.61 crore in July 2026 from Rs 22617.64 crore in July 2025. 

Of the total premium collected by life insurance companies in the month of July 2026, individual single premium stood at Rs 6097.84 crore as against Rs 5506.81 crore in July 2025, i.e. up by 10.73%; individual non-single premium surged 8.59% to Rs 10914.69 crore in July 2026 as compared to Rs 10051.05 crore in July 2025. Group Single Premium stood at Rs 27857.01 crore in July 2026, a Y-o-Y growth of 30.90%; and Group Non-Single Premium stood at Rs 435.22 crore in July 2026. Besides, Group Yearly Renewable Premium increased to Rs 1700.07 crore in July 2026 from Rs 17.53 crore in July 2025. 

Among the private insurance companies, Aditya Birla Sun Life Insurance Company’s premium jumped 177.10% Y-o-Y to Rs 1902.25 crore, Generali Central Life Insurance Company’s premium surged 167.01% Y-o-Y to Rs 159.86 crore, Acko Life Insurance Company’s premium soared 92.22% Y-o-Y to Rs 18.53 crore and Indiafirst Life Insurance Company’s premium rose 48.98% Y-o-Y to Rs 411.62 crore.

Similarly, Kotak Mahindra Life Insurance Company’s premium gained 22.83% Y-o-Y to Rs 835.48 crore, ICICI Prudential Life Insurance Company’s premium increased 20.70% Y-o-Y to Rs 2300.92 crore, Bajaj Life Insurance’s premium advanced 20.36% Y-o-Y to Rs 1386.17 crore, Axis Max Life Insurance’s premium added 19.16% to Y-o-Y Rs 1252.47 crore and HDFC Life Insurance Company’s premium was up by 15.53% to Y-o-Y Rs 3528.41 crore.
