Life insurers’ new business premium jumps 33% in August

Life Insurance Council in its latest data (Provisional) has showed that life insurers posted 33.07% year-on-year (Y-o-Y) rise in new business premium (NBP) in the month of August 2026 at Rs 41197.78 crore as compared to Rs 30958.77 crore in the same month a year-ago. Out of which, the private insurers’ premium increased by 19.99% Y-o-Y to Rs 17922.35 crore in August 2026 from Rs 14936.00 crore August 2025. On the other hand, Life Insurance Corporation of India’s premium jumped by 45.26% to Rs 23275.43 crore in August 2026 from Rs 16022.77 crore in August 2025. 

Of the total premium collected by life insurance companies in the month of August 2026, individual single premium stood at Rs 5512.44 crore as against Rs 4092.04 crore in August 2025, i.e. up by 34.71%; individual non-single premium rose 13.39% to Rs 10349.18 crore in August 2026 as compared to Rs 9126.81 crore in August 2025. Group Single Premium stood at Rs 23887.02 crore in August 2026, a Y-o-Y jump of 56.09% over Rs 15303.40 crore in August 2025. However, Group Non-Single Premium stood at Rs 64.18 crore in August 2026, Y-o-Y fall of 86.11%. Besides, Group Yearly Renewable Premium declined to Rs 1384.96 crore in August 2026 from Rs 1974.55 crore in August 2025. 

Aditya Birla Sun Life Insurance Company’s premium jumped 137.94% Y-o-Y to Rs 1313.02 crore, Acko Life Insurance Company’s premium surged 121.97% to Rs 18.89 crore, Creditaccess Life Insurance Company’s premium soared 101.54% to Rs 45.67 crore, Aviva Life Insurance Company’s premium rose 67.81% to Rs 52.07 crore, and Godigit Life Insurance’s premium gained 61.62% to Rs 162.74 crore.

Similarly, PNB Metlife Life Insurance Company’s premium advanced 55.52% to Rs 723.76 crore, Bandhan Life Insurance’s premium increased 47.88% to Rs 44.57 crore, Tata Aia Life Insurance Company’s premium improved 33.19% to Rs 1096.11 crore and Bajaj Life Insurance’s premium was up by 31.59% to 1953.99 crore. On the other hand, Edelweiss Life Insurance Company’s premium fell 3.39% to Rs 43.62 crore and Pramerica Life Insurance’s premium was down by 3.78% to Rs 110.45 crore.
