NHC Foods’ arm inks pact to establish manufacturing plant in Liberia

NHC Foods’ subsidiary/group entity in Liberia -- NHC Foods (Liberia) has entered into binding Heads of Terms (HOT) with Liberia Special Economic Zone Development Company (LSEZDC) in relation to the proposed sub-lease and development of an industrial plot situated within the Monrovia Industrial Free Zone (Starbase), Bushrod Island, Monrovia, Republic of Liberia.  The proposed project represents an important step in the company’s international expansion strategy and is intended to establish the company’s first food processing/manufacturing footprint in Liberia, with the initial facility proposed for the manufacture and processing of fruit juices and allied food and beverage products.

The proposed investment forms part of the company’s broader strategy to progressively establish its presence in international markets, particularly Africa, which represents a large and developing consumer market with a population of around 1.5 billion people. Liberia has been identified as a strategic entry point for the company into West Africa, having regard to its location, access to Atlantic shipping routes and its participation in the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).  Subject to applicable rules of origin, customs regulations, product registrations, regulatory approvals and other applicable requirements, the proposed Liberian manufacturing operation is intended to position the company to progressively access and develop markets across the wider ECOWAS region.

Under the HOT, the proposed facility will be developed at the Monrovia Industrial Free Zone (Starbase), Bushrod Island, within an around 7,580 square metre industrial plot, subject to final cadastral and topographical survey. The presently contemplated built-up area is around 1,590 square metres. The HOT provides for the development of the manufacturing facility together with the supporting infrastructure required for its operations. The definitive sub-lease is proposed to be entered into between LSEZDC, NHC Foods (Liberia) and the Liberia Special Economic Zone Authority (LSEZA), with LSEZA acting as the acknowledging and confirming authority
