Copper futures settle down on Monday
Sep-29-2026
Copper futures settled down on Monday, pressured by disappointing August industrial profits from top consumer China that weakened demand expectations. Lingering concerns over the Middle East conflict and higher energy costs stoked inflationary pressures, while a stronger American currency made copper more expensive for overseas buyers. Rising US Treasury yields and mounting expectations of further Federal Reserve tightening also pressured copper prices. Investors anticipate slower trading as China prepares for its October 1-7 National Day celebration.

Copper futures for December delivery fell $0.1325 to settle at $6.6335 a pound on the Comex metals division of New York Mercantile Exchange. Copper on the London Metal Exchange was down by 1.43% at $14,413 a ton.
