Rupee weakens against US dollar on Monday
Jun-21-2021

Rupee weakened against the US dollar on Monday tracking muted trend in domestic equities following Federal Reserve official’s hawkish comments last week that suggested the first interest rate hike by the US central bank could come as early as the end of 2022. Further, strengthening of the American currency and rising crude oil prices also weighed on rupee sentiment. However, Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) bought shares worth Rs 2,680.57 crore, exchange data showed.

The partially convertible currency is currently trading at 74.14, weaker by 28 paise from its previous close of 73.86 on Friday. The currency touched a high and low of 74.2025 and 74.1075 respectively. The reference rate for the dollar stood at 72.98, and for Euro stood 88.98 on June 11, 2021. While the reference rate for the 100 Yen stood at 66.7, the reference rate for the Great Britain Pound (GBP) stood at 103.50.
