Rupee strengthens against US dollar on firm domestic equities
Sep-16-2021

Indian rupee strengthened against the US dollar on Thursday, tracking a firm trend in domestic equities amid sustained foreign fund inflows in the capital market. Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) were net buyers in the capital market as they purchased shares worth Rs 232.84 crore on Wednesday, exchange data showed. The rupee sentiment was also buoyed by weakness of the American currency in the overseas market and Union Cabinet announcements linked to telecom and auto sectors. However, high crude oil prices restricted the gains in rupee. On the global front, dollar weakened ahead of next week's US Federal Reserve policy meeting.

The partially convertible currency is currently trading at 73.43, stronger by 7 paise from its previous close of 73.50 on Wednesday. The currency touched a high and low of 73.5150 and 73.3950 respectively.
