Haryana elections: INLD and BSP reunite, announce alliance to fight polls together
Jul-11-2024

After the recent Lok Sabha poll debacle, the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) and the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) announced that they would contest the upcoming Haryana Assembly elections jointly.

The announcement was made by BSP's general secretary Abhay Singh Chautala in a press conference held in Chandigarh. Abhay Singh Chautala said, ‘In Haryana, we have decided to jointly fight the upcoming assembly elections. Today, the feeling of common people is to oust the BJP from power and keep the Congress party at bay, which looted the state for 10 years earlier.’ During the press conference, INLD and BSP leaders also informed about how many seats they will contest. Out of the 90 assembly seats, INLD will contest on 53 seats and BSP on 37 seats.

On the alliance, BSP chief Mayawati said, ‘Bahujan Samaj Party and the Indian National Lok Dal will fight the upcoming assembly elections in Haryana together with the resolve to defeat the anti-people parties and form a new coalition government, which was announced in a joint press conference in Chandigarh today with my full blessings.’ The BSP contested nine of 10 parliamentary seats while INLD fielded candidates in seven seats. Both parties failed to win a single seat.

As per the manifesto, both parties promised to do away with contractual employment by offering permanent jobs, setting up solar plants to minimise the electricity bill of each household to Rs 500, besides free water, old-age pension of Rs 7,500 per month, Rs 21,000 unemployment allowance and one employed person in every house, etc. Assembly elections in Haryana likely to be held in October this year.
