Congress gave OBC quota to Muslims in Karnataka, BJP won’t allow it in Haryana: Amit Shah
Jul-16-2024

Union Home Minister Amit Shah accused the Congress of being anti-backward classes and said if the party comes to power in Haryana, it will snatch the reservation for them and give it to Muslims.

Addressing a 'Backward Classes Samman Sammelan' in Mahendragarh, Haryana, Shah said that the Kaka Kalelkar Commission for OBC reservation was formed in 1957, but the Congress did not implement it for many years. He said, ‘Indira Gandhi withdrew the Mandal Commission in 1980 and when it was implemented is 1990, Rajiv Gandhi opposed OBC reservation in a 2 hour 43 minute speech in Parliament’. Home Minister said that Congress took away the quota from backward classes in Karnataka and gave it to Muslims and alleged that if Congress comes to Haryana, they will do the same here. He further assured that his party will not allow to implement Muslim reservation in Haryana under any circumstances. Amit Shah also asserted that the BJP will form the government in Haryana with a full majority.

Attacking senior Congress leader and former chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda over the Congress’ ‘Haryana Maange Hisab’ campaign, Shah said, ‘Hooda sahab, you have to give an account of 10 years of misgovernance and depriving Haryana of development.’ The Congress recently launched the ‘Haryana Maange Hisab’ campaign, under which it will target the ruling BJP on several fronts, including unemployment and law and order, ahead of the assembly polls.

Amit Shah said the BJP government of Haryana has taken a big decision to help the OBC category. He said the Nayab Singh Saini’s cabinet has increased the annual income limit for the creamy layer of OBCs from Rs 6 lakh to Rs 8 lakh. This was Shah’s second visit to Haryana since June 29, when he addressed the BJP’s state executive meeting at Panchkula. The Haryana Assembly elections are scheduled to be held later this year.
