Mayawati Criticizes Karnataka Government's Reversal on Reservation Policy
Jul-19-2024

Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati today criticized the Congress-led Karnataka government for reversing its reservation policy for administrative and non-administrative posts under industrialists' pressure.

Targeting the Karnataka government, Mayawati said, ‘The decision by the Congress government of Karnataka to give the 50 per cent reservations to the local people at the administrative posts and 75 per reservations for the non-administrative posts at the non-administrative posts in the private companies is more than a dispute of right and wrong.’ She further said, 'The decision to withdraw under the pressure of the industrialists is due to them being Dhannaseth supporters like the BJP. This withdrawal is new evidence of that.’

Meanwhile, BJP leader CT Ravi termed the Karnataka government's actions as 'natakbaazi,' or theatrical. He said that in the state, the atmosphere is against the CM and the Congress government and claimed government is diverting attention from more pressing issues like the closure of Kannada schools in the state. On July 17, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah put the reservation in the private sector, organisations, industries and enterprises on hold soon after it was released. According to him, the bill would be revisited in the next cabinet meeting. CM Siddaramiah said that the proposed bill is still in the preparation stage and will undergo comprehensive discussions before a final decision is made.
