In poll-bound Haryana, Congress' Rahul Gandhi promises to restore Old Pension Scheme
Sep-30-2024

Ahead of the assembly polls in Haryana, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi promised to restore the Old Pension Scheme in the State. Addressing an election rally in Ambala, Rahul Gandhi said, ‘We will re-implement the old pension scheme and for social security, and Rs 6000 every month will go into the bank accounts of widows, elderly people, and disabled people, if Congress wins the upcoming assembly polls. He said that farmers of Haryana will be given guaranteed MSP and that women will be given Rs 2000 under the Mahila Shakti Yojana. Additionally, he vowed to provide LPG cylinders at Rs 500.

In his speech, Gandhi launched a scathing attack on the Modi government, accusing it of favoring a few wealthy individuals like Ambani-Adani. He said, ‘This is not Modi ji's government. This is Adani's government. We don't want a government of people like Adani ji in Haryana. We want a government of farmers and the poor in Haryana.’ He added that the government is reluctant to waive off farmers’ loans, stating that only loans of big corporations, especially of industrialist Gautam Adani, are waived off easily.

About the Agniveer scheme, former congress chief said that it robbed soldiers of their pensions and alleged that the Modi government was more interested in marketing defense deals to benefit Adani. In the 2019 elections, the BJP emerged as the single-largest party, securing 40 seats, while Congress won 30 seats. Haryana will go to the polls on October 5 to elect its 90-member state legislative assembly, with counting set to take place on October 8.
