People of Wayanad will ask me not to come there often: Priyanka Gandhi
Nov-05-2024

Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said the people of Wayand constituency will ultimately decide whether she should visit the constituency frequently or stay in Delhi. She made this comment in response to the comments of her rival candidates, in which she said that if the Congress leader would rarely be seen in Wayanad if she won the seat.

While speaking on the third day of her five-day election campaign, Congress general secretary said for her, each person in Wayanad represents ‘a duty, a responsibility, a strong bond of love and affection’ and expressed hope that they would give her the opportunity to represent them in Parliament. She reiterated that essential issues like unemployment and rising prices are still unresolved. She highlighted local issues including lack of medical college, ban on night travel and human-animal conflict and appreciated his brother Rahul Gandhi's efforts to resolve them. Priyanka Gandhi also accused the BJP-led central government of ‘divisive politics.’ She said that due to his pressure, the government has upgraded a hospital in Wayanad into a medical college, although it still lacks essential facilities due to ‘political reasons’.

The UDF candidate in the Wayanad Lok Sabha bypoll also emphasised the importance of maximising the potential of the district by creating employment opportunities. She said ‘we can achieve this by promoting various forms of tourism, such as ecotourism and spiritual tourism’. The Congress general secretary, who is making her electoral debut, will remain in Kerala until November 7.
