Maharashtra assembly polls: ‘Battle of ideologies between few billionaires and poor,’ says Rahul Gandhi
Nov-18-2024

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi launched indirect attack on BJP and called Maharashtra election as a contest between billionaire interests and the poor.

Speaking at a press conference in Mumbai, Rahul Gandhi said that the Maharashtra election is an election of ideologies and an election between 1-2 billionaires and the poor. The billionaires want the land of Mumbai to go into their hands. The estimate is that Rs 1 lakh crore will be given to 1 billionaire. He stressed that Congress’ focus is on supporting Maharashtra’s farmers, the underprivileged, the unemployed, and youth in need of assistance. Gandhi added that Maha Vikas Aghadi government will protect the interests of the people of Maharashtra.

Addressing key issues such as employment, inflation, and the welfare of women and farmers, Gandhi said one of the major proposals was financial support for women, with the promise of Rs 3,000 per month for every woman, along with free bus rides. The Congress leader pledged a loan waiver of up to Rs 3 lakh for farmers, as well as a guaranteed price of Rs 7,000 per quintal for soybeans and assurances for onion prices. He also promised to remove the 50 per cent cap on reservations and conduct a caste-based survey in the country.

Mocking PM Modi’s slogan 'Ek hai toh safe hai', Gandhi brought a safe to the press conference and pulled out a poster of Modi and industrialist Gautam Adani, and said, ‘They are safe till they are together.’ The Maharashtra assembly elections are scheduled for November 20, with votes for all 288 constituencies to be counted on November 23.
