Congress launches 'Pyari Didi' scheme ahead of Delhi elections
Jan-06-2025

Ahead of the Delhi assembly elections, the Congress launched the 'Pyari Didi' scheme in the national capital, promising monthly financial assistance of Rs 2,500 to women if voted to power in Delhi.

This scheme is aimed at financially empowering women and will be implemented during the first Cabinet meeting of the new government. The scheme will be implemented following the model adopted by the Congress government in Karnataka. Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar was in Delhi to launch the scheme.

While addressing the launching ceremony, Karnataka Deputy CM D K Shivakumar said, ‘Today, I have come here to launch the Pyari Didi Yojana. We are confident that a Congress government will be formed in Delhi, and on the first day of the new Cabinet, we will implement the scheme to provide Rs 2,500 to every woman in the capital’.

Calling the Rs 2,000 monthly assistance scheme ‘Gruha Lakshmi’ in Karnataka a ‘success story’, D K Shivakumar highlighted that the Congress government in the southern state approved the social welfare schemes in its first Cabinet meeting. Delhi Congress chief Devender Yadav, the party's Delhi in-charge Qazi Nizamuddin, and other senior leaders were also present during the announcement.

In 2023, the Congress government in Karnataka launched the Gruha Lakshmi scheme, which is aimed to facilitate an unconditional cash transfer program that would deposit Rs 2,000 monthly into the bank accounts of women heading households. Elections for the 70-member Delhi Assembly are due in February, with all political parties making full efforts to secure their positions in the polls.
