Contest between AAP and BJP, not an election of INDIA alliance: Arvind Kejriwal on Delhi polls
Jan-09-2025

Aam Admi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal said that the Delhi assembly elections will be a direct contest between the AAP and the BJP and not an election of the INDIA alliance. His comments came as Trinamool Congress, Samajwadi Party and Shiv Sena (UBT) expressed their support for AAP in the Delhi elections, in what is seen as a message to the Congress that is fighting the elections against the Kejriwal-led party.

Addressing a press conference in New Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal said, ‘Delhi assembly election is between AAP and the BJP. It is not the election of the INDIA alliance. I wholeheartedly express my gratitude to all those parties for supporting us. Mamata Banerjee is supporting us. Akhilesh Yadav is supporting us. I have learnt through media that the (Uddhav) Thackeray ji's party is supporting us.’

When asked about his Congress rival in New Delhi seat Sandeep Dikshit planning to file a defamation case against AAP leaders for alleging that he took money from BJP, Kejriwal said he is a ‘pawn’ of the saffron party. Kejriwal said, ‘When BJP asks him (Dikshit) to move one step, he would do that. If he is asked to move two steps, he would then do that. If they ask him to file a case, he would do that too’.

At the press conference, AAP national convenor also attacked the BJP accusing it of ‘cheating’ the Jat community in Delhi by not including them in the central list of Other Backward Communities and depriving them of quota benefits.

The Congress, which leads the anti-BJP INDIA bloc, is going solo in the Delhi polls and has so far announced names of 48 candidates. The 70-member Delhi Assembly will go to polls on 5 February and votes will be counted on February 8.
