US markets end higher ahead of Fed's monetary policy announcement
Sep-16-2025

The US markets ended higher on Monday following positive comments from US President Donald Trump about trade talks between top U.S. and Chinese officials in Europe. He said that he will be speaking with Chinese President Xi Jinping on September 19 and described the relationship as a very strong one. Meanwhile, traders continued to look ahead to the Federal Reserve's (Fed) monetary policy announcement on September 17. The Fed is widely expected to lower interest rates by at least 25 basis points following the recent relatively subdued inflation and a weakening labor market. Further, they are likely to pay close attention to the Fed's accompanying statement as well as Fed Chair Jerome Powell's post-meeting comments for clues about the likelihood of further rate cuts.

On the sectoral front, computer hardware stocks put some of the market's best performances of the session, with the NSYE Arca Computer Hardware Index surging by 2.5 percent to a record closing high. Besides, significant strength has been seen among networking stock, as reflected by the 2.3 percent jump by the NYSE Arca Networking Index.

Dow Jones Industrial Average inching up 49.23 points or 0.11 percent to 45,883.45, S&P 500 climbed 30.99 points or 0.47 percent to 6,615.28 and Nasdaq jumped 207.65 points or 0.94 percent to 22,348.75.
