Indices remain in green in late morning deals

Domestic indices continued to trade in green with marginal gains in late morning deals on account of buying in Kotak Mahindra Bank, Axis Bank, Mahindra & Mahindra, Eternal and Bajaj Finance companies’ stocks. Meanwhile, broader indices outperformed their large peers with BSE Mid cap index and Small cap index gaining in the range of 0.40-0.45%. Traders were getting some encouragement as India and the five-nation grouping Eurasian Economic Commission have reviewed the roadmap for their proposed free trade agreement in goods with an aim to boost economic ties between the two. On the BSE sectoral front, traders were seen piling up positions in Bankex, PSU, Oil & Gas, Auto and Power, while selling was witnessed in Metal, IT and Basic Materials. 

On the global front, Asian markets were trading mixed amid renewed uncertainty about the outlook for interest rates, the lofty valuation in the tech sector and the U.S. economic outlook. Back home, in the stock specific development, Lupin gained after the U.S. FDA completed inspection of its Nagpur facility with zero observations.

The BSE Sensex is currently trading at 84687.93, up by 125.15 points or 0.15% after trading in a range of 84581.08 and 84844.69. There were 16 stocks advancing against 14 stocks declining on the index.

The broader indices were trading in green; the BSE Mid cap index was up by 0.42%, while Small cap index up by 0.45%.

The top gaining sectoral indices on the BSE were Bankex up by 0.70%, PSU up by 0.67%, Oil & Gas up by 0.55%, Auto up by 0.52% and Power up by 0.39%, while Metal down by 0.39%, IT down by 0.25% and Basic Materials down by 0.16% were the top losing indices on BSE.

The top gainers on the Sensex were Kotak Mahindra Bank up by 1.52%, Axis Bank up by 1.11%, Mahindra & Mahindra up by 0.89%, Eternal up by 0.82% and Bajaj Finance up by 0.77%. On the flip side, Tata MotorsPassenger down by 4.61%, Tata Steel down by 0.80%, Bharat Electronics down by 0.76%, Ultratech Cement down by 0.75% and Adani Ports down by 0.49% were the top losers.

Meanwhile, the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) has said that robust festive demand aided by price cuts owing to GST rate rejig led to record passenger vehicle, two and three-wheeler dispatches from companies to dealers in October. Total passenger vehicle wholesales in October 2025 rose to 4,60,739 units, an increase of 17 per cent compared with 3,93,238 units in October last year.

SIAM stated that similarly, two-wheeler sales rose to 22,10,727 units during the month, an increase of 2 per cent against 21,64,276 units in the year-ago period. Scooter sales were up 14 per cent year-on-year at 8,24,003 units in October 2025 as compared with 7,21,200 units in October 2024. Motorcycle dispatches, however, declined 4 per cent year-on-year to 13,35,468 units in October. Three-wheeler dispatches rose 6 per cent year-on-year to 81,288 units in October.

SIAM Director General Rajesh Menon said passenger vehicles, two and three-wheeler segments posted their highest ever dispatches to dealers in October, primarily buoyed by the festive demand and the recent GST rate reduction, despite being constrained due to certain logistic limitations. He said with the reduced GST rates becoming effective from September 22, October witnessed a strong uptick in vehicle registrations, resulting in a notable rise compared to wholesales.

The CNX Nifty is currently trading at 25928.00, up by 17.95 points or 0.07% after trading in a range of 25906.35 and 25979.80. There were 24 stocks advancing against 26 stocks declining on the index.

The top gainers on Nifty were Shriram Finance up by 1.94%, Bajaj Auto up by 1.49%, Eicher Motors up by 1.12%, Kotak Mahindra Bank up by 1.04% and Axis Bank up by 0.98%. On the flip side, Tata MotorsPassenger down by 4.58%, Interglobe Aviation down by 0.99%, Ultratech Cement down by 0.94%, HDFC Life Insurance down by 0.89% and Tata Steel down by 0.87% were the top losers.

Asian markets were trading mostly mixed; Nikkei 225 slipped 116.53 points or 0.23% to 50,260.00, Shanghai Composite weakened 24.53 points or 0.61% to 3,965.96, Hang Seng declined 266.46 points or 1% to 26,306.00 and Straits Times fell 2.92 points or 0.06% to 4,543.15. However, Taiwan Weighted added 49.81 points or 0.18% to 27,447.31, Jakarta Composite gained 63.76 points or 0.76% to 8,434.20 and KOSPI increased 70.26 points or 1.75% to 4,081.83.
