Rupee depreciates against dollar on Monday
Dec-01-2025

Indian rupee depreciated against the US dollar on Monday fuelled by strong market demand for the American currency. Sentiments were downbeat as India's manufacturing industry witnessed a slowdown in the growth during the month of November, as new export orders rose at the weakest pace in over a year. According to the survey report, the seasonally adjusted HSBC India Manufacturing Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) eased to 56.6 in November from 59.2 in October, but it was comfortably above the neutral mark of 50.0 and its long-run average of 54.2. Besides, India’s industrial output growth, measured in terms of the Index of Industrial Production (IIP), grew 0.4 per cent (Year-on-Year) in October 2025. On the global front, Japanese yen strengthened against other major currencies in the Asian session on Monday, as traders speculate a December interest rate hike by the Bank of Japan.

Finally, the rupee ended at 89.53 (Provisional), depreciated by 8 paise from its previous close of 89.45 on Friday. The currency touched a high and low of 89.79 and 89.42 respectively.
