US markets end mostly in green on Friday
Jan-03-2026

The US markets ended mostly in green on Friday amid strong gains in blue-chip stocks such as Boeing, Caterpillar, and Goldman Sachs. Meanwhile, markets traded on thin volumes as some traders remained away from their desks following the New Year's Day holiday on Thursday. Besides, lack of major U.S. economic data may have kept some traders on the side-lines ahead of the release of several key reports next week, including the closely watched monthly jobs report. On the sectoral front, significant strength has been seen in semiconductor stocks, resulting in a 4.0 percent surge in the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index. Micron Technology helped to lead the sector higher, with the chipmaker spiking by 10.5 percent to a record closing high. Moreover, oil service stocks showed a considerable move to the upside on the day despite a modest decrease by the price of crude oil, driving the Philadelphia Oil Service Index up by 3.9 percent. Computer hardware, banking and networking stocks also showed strong moves to the upside, while software stocks moved sharply lower.

Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 319.1 points or 0.66 percent to 48,382.39 and S&P 500 crept up 12.97 points or 0.19 percent to 6,858.47, while Nasdaq edged down 6.36 points or 0.03 percent to 23,235.63.
