Tamil Nadu elections: AIADMK unveils third phase of poll promises
Feb-24-2026

AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami unveiled his party's third phase of poll promises for the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly election.

On the occasion of the birth anniversary of former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, Edappadi K Palaniswami announced the AIADMK would provide a one-time ex-gratia of Rs 10,000 to each family in order to reduce the hardships caused by the DMK regime during which the prices of essential commodities have risen sharply. The party assured that its government would provide Rs 1,000 each to ration cardholders as part of the annual Pongal gift hamper.

Palaniswami said that the DMK regime has imposed multiple taxes over the past five years, leading to a sharp rise in the prices of essential commodities and severely affecting the public. He said the taxes include property tax, house tax, electricity charges and drinking water tax, multiplying the daily financial burden on families.

The former Chief Minister also said a stipend of Rs 2,000 per month to degree holders registered with the employment exchanges and awaiting jobs, and Rs 1,000 to those who studied upto Plus Two and registered with the employment exchanges would be provided when the AIADMK comes to power.

Reiterating a promise made on Sunday at a public meeting, Palaniswami said relief assistance provided to fishermen during the fishing ban period would be increased from Rs 8,000 to Rs 12,000.

Palaniswami announced that handloom weavers would be entitled to 450 units of free electricity instead of the existing 300 units and power looms, 1,400 units as against 1,000 units. He also said loans taken from cooperative banks by small traders operating pavement shops in urban areas would be waived.

AIADMK has already announced 10 populist promises in two earlier instalments, including enhancing the monthly aid for women heads of family ration cardholders to Rs 2,000.
