Asian markets trade mostly lower in early deals on Tuesday

Asian markets traded mostly lower in early deals on Tuesday, pressured by the soaring crude oil prices with the intensified geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, and cautious sentiment ahead of a deadline set by US President Donald Trump for Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. Japan’s Nikkei dipped slightly on speculation that strong local employment data will lead the Bank of Japan to raise interest rates further. Stock market of Hong Kong is closed for a holiday today. 

Nikkei down by 19.68 points or 0.04% to 53,394.00, Straits Times dipped by 8.96 points or 0.18% to 4,963.44, Jakarta Composite slipped by 20.27 points or 0.29% to 6,969.16, and FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI index narrowed by 5.71 points or 0.34% to 1,675.12.

On the flip side, Taiwan weighted increased by 572.84 points or 1.76% to 33,145.27, KOSPI Index up by 10.02 points or 0.18% to 5,460.35, and Shanghai Composite rose by 5.56 points or 0.14% to 3,886.32.
