Rupee strengthens against US dollar in early trade on Friday

The Indian rupee strengthened against the US dollar in early trade on Friday as global crude oil prices retreated after US President Donald Trump cancelled planned military strikes on Iran for a third straight day, claiming that a deal with Tehran is close to being finalised, a ‌development that could soften a persistent pressure point for the currency. Moreover, a weaker US dollar and firm domestic equities markets also supported rupee sentiments. Rupee also finding support from recent policy measures by the Reserve Bank of India to attract billions of dollars from overseas investors. Meanwhile, Foreign institutional investors offloaded equities worth Rs 1,987.09 crore on a net basis on Thursday, exchange data showed.

The partially convertible currency is currently trading at 95.29, stronger by 56 paise from its previous close of 95.85 on Thursday. The currency touched a high and low of 95.41 and 95.1850 respectively.
