Indian rupee strengthens against dollar on Tuesday

Indian rupee has strengthened against the US dollar on Tuesday as investors remained optimistic after Ministry of Commerce & Industry in its latest data showed that nine key infrastructure sectors’ output growth rose to a five-month high of 5% in June 2026 due to an increase in output of cement, electricity and iron ore. The core sectors' growth was 1.1% in June 2025 and 3.2% in May 2026. Further, traders overlooked surge in Brent crude oil prices amid tensions in West Asia. Brent crude oil prices were trading above the $90 a barrel mark amid tensions in West Asia. United States continued its strikes on Iran for the tenth consecutive night, while Iran continued its retaliatory attacks across Gulf region targeting US assets in the region. On the global front, the British pound has weakened against the US dollar on Tuesday as UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham appointed John Healey as chancellor.

Finally, the rupee ended at 96.25 (Provisional), strengthened by 11 paise from its previous close of 96.36 on Monday. The currency touched a high and low of 96.42 and 96.13 respectively.
