Benchmarks magnify gains in late trade

Indian equity markets added more gains in late afternoon session with market heavy weights like HDFC Bank and Infosys leading the charge. Further, Fitch Ratings’ estimates of revenue for rated Indian corporates bolstered sentiments on the bourses. The rating agency projected aggregate revenue for rated corporates to rise by 9% in the current fiscal, stronger than the 5% estimated for FY26, which would keep credit metrics of Indian companies stable. Besides, renewed foreign capital inflows in Indian markets put investors in a buying mood. Foreign institutional investors were the net buyers of securities worth Rs 755.33 crore on Tuesday’s session. Moreover, India’s Index of Industrial Production (IIP) jumped to 7.3% for the month of June 2026 (Base 2022-23=100) from a revised growth of 5.0% in May 2026, supported by sharp expansion in manufacturing and strong growth in electricity and gas supply. 

On the global front, Asian equity markets were trading mixed as selloff among AI related stocks and fresh US-Iran tensions kept in market participants on edge. European equity markets were trading mostly in red as renewed tensions in middle east spiked up the global crude oil prices.

The BSE Sensex is currently trading at 77715.21, up by 949.29 points or 1.24% after trading in a range of 77333.24 and 77765.32. There were 24 stocks advancing against 6 stocks declining on the index.

The top gaining sectoral indices on the BSE were TECK up by 2.58%, IT up by 2.51%, Metal up by 2.01%, Telecom up by 1.75% and FMCG up by 1.54%, while Realty down by 0.50%, Power down by 0.15%, Auto down by 0.14%, Oil & Gas down by 0.03% and Capital Goods down by 0.02% were the top losing indices on BSE.

The top gainers on the Sensex were Infosys up by 4.66%, Hindustan Unilever up by 4.51%, Larsen & Toubro up by 2.78%, Bharti Airtel up by 2.74% and Asian Paints up by 2.64%. On the flip side, Adani Ports & SEZ down by 3.07%, Mahindra & Mahindra down by 1.51%, Power Grid Corporation down by 0.88%, Bharat Electronics down by 0.80% and Bajaj Finserv down by 0.48% were the top losers.

Meanwhile, Ministry of Finance in its latest report has said that Indian Public Sector Banks (PSBs) have witnessed a significant improvement in their financial health, with healthy balance sheets, historically high profits and multi-decadal low level of gross non-performing assets (GNPAs).

Net profit of India's public-sector banks nearly tripled over the past five years to a record Rs 1.98 lakh crore in FY26 as compared to Rs 0.67 lakh crore in FY22, while the total business of Public Sector Banks rose to Rs 283.3 lakh crore as of March 31, 2026, from Rs 181.5 lakh crore as of March 31, 2022, with deposits increasing to Rs 156.3 lakh crore and total loans & advances to Rs 127 lakh crore.

Besides, the Ministry noted that the gross NPA ratio declined to an all-time low of 1.9 per cent as of March 31, 2026, from 7.3 per cent as of March 31, 2022. Their capital adequacy ratio also improved to 16.6 per cent at the end of FY26 from 14.6 per cent at the end of FY22.

The CNX Nifty is currently trading at 24263.35, up by 278.00 points or 1.16% after trading in a range of 24136.75 and 24279.00. There were 40 stocks advancing against 10 stocks declining on the index.

The top gainers on Nifty were JIO Financial Services up by 4.84%, Infosys up by 4.59%, Hindustan Unilever up by 4.51%, Bharti Airtel up by 2.73% and Larsen & Toubro up by 2.69%. On the flip side, Adani Ports & SEZ down by 2.92%, Mahindra & Mahindra down by 1.46%, Power Grid Corporation down by 0.93%, Eicher Motors down by 0.66% and Bajaj Auto down by 0.60% were the top losers.

Asian equity markets were trading mixed; Straits Times rose 88.15 points or 1.57% to 5,704.26, Shanghai Composite strengthened 15.16 points or 0.4% to 3,828.47 and Hang Seng advanced 490.15 points or 1.9% to 25,801.00, while Nikkei 225 slipped 1083.92 points or 1.77% to 61,281.00, Taiwan Weighted lost 1564.18 points or 3.91% to 40,039.18, KOSPI dropped 360.42 points or 6.36% to 5,663.24 and Jakarta Composite plunged 42.8 points or 0.7% to 6,087.79.

European equity markets were trading mostly in red; France’s CAC fell 39.18 points or 0.46% to 8,419.60 and Germany’s DAX lost 55.51 points or 0.22% to 25,408.50, while UK’s FTSE 100 increased 13.14 points or 0.12% to 10,884.16.
