Indian markets witness rise during early noon deals
Jul-31-2026

Indian markets witnessed a sharp rise during early afternoon deals, as both Sensex and Nifty added notable gains, on the back of heavy buying at Auto and Capital Goods counters along with positive cues from other Asian markets. Traders took a note of Moody's latest report stating that the growth in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region is likely to moderate to 4.1 per cent in 2026 from 4.3 per cent in 2025 and further to slow down to 3.6 per cent in 2027, amid high commodity prices, tighter policy settings, and unusually hot and dry weather. However, it is expecting India to remain one of the fastest-growing major economies in the Asia-Pacific region, even as higher oil prices, fresh US tariffs and slowing global growth pose risks to the outlook.

On the global front, Asian markets were trading mostly in green, after the Bank of Japan maintained its key interest rate, as widely expected, on Friday after raising the rate in June. The policy board voted 8-1 to retain the interest rate at 1.00 percent. The bank had raised its benchmark rate by 25 basis points in June.

The BSE Sensex is currently trading at 78201.68, up by 273.53 points or 0.35% after trading in a range of 77809.93 and 78207.53. There were 17 stocks advancing against 13 stocks declining on the index.

The top gaining sectoral indices on the BSE were Auto up by 2.26%, Capital Goods up by 1.94%, Industrials up by 1.48%, Power up by 1.26% and Telecom up by 0.92%, while IT down by 0.94%, FMCG down by 0.61% and TECK down by 0.41% were the few losing indices on BSE.

Meanwhile, Union Minister for Ports, Shipping & Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal said India is stepping up investments in ports, inland waterways and shipbuilding as the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW) advances its roadmap towards Viksit Bharat 2047, with a strong emphasis on capacity expansion, private sector participation, digitalisation and maritime manufacturing.

Chairing a high-level review of the Ministry's Viksit Bharat targets, Sonowal directed officials to fast-track the implementation of flagship projects while ensuring strict adherence to timelines. He urged the Ministry, major ports and the Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) to adopt a coordinated approach to achieve India's long-term maritime goals. He noted that India has become the world's largest ship recycling nation, while inland waterways cargo has surpassed 200 million tonnes, achieving the Maritime India Vision (MIV) 2030 target well ahead of schedule.

The minister said these milestones reflect the country's ability to deliver when policy, execution and teamwork move together. Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, the maritime sector has become a key driver of India's economic transformation. He said ‘we must continue to work with the same sense of purpose, uphold the Prime Minister's mantra of ‘Speed and Scale’, and ensure that every milestone under Viksit Bharat 2047 is delivered on time’.

He also called on officials to strengthen institutional resilience by incorporating lessons from global disruptions into future planning. The evolving geopolitical situation has shown that resilience is as important as growth. Every challenge offers an opportunity to build stronger systems, enhance capacity and prepare India for the future. He said ‘our planning must anticipate global uncertainties while keeping India's growth trajectory firmly on course’.
