Aug-25-2026

Indian equity markets wiped out all the losses and entered into green terrain during late afternoon deals as Brent crude oil prices declined by over 2% to below the $90 a barrel mark even after the US roll out of economic sanctions on Iran. Further, renewed capital inflows from foreign institutional investors (FIIs) into Indian markets have uplifted the trading sentiments. FIIs were the net buyers on Monday’s session, buying securities worth Rs 1,181.66 crore. Meanwhile, market participants took note of Moody's Analytics’ report stating the artificial intelligence boom has helped the Asia-Pacific region dodge a sharper slowdown, but headwinds to growth are mounting as geopolitical and trade shocks keep prices high.

Meanwhile, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal has said that India will amend its existing regulations and introduce new rules within the next two months to address regulatory concerns raised by semiconductor and auto component manufacturers. He said two large companies, one seeking to manufacture semiconductor equipment in India and another operating in the automotive components sector, have flagged regulatory concerns with the government.

The minister said the government has significantly simplified the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) framework and is working to further ease approval requirements, including for suppliers that may not currently be covered under revised regulations. He said ‘there would be occasions where the demand may be only about importing goods from another country …which is not conducive for fair trading practices and which is often known to supply goods at predatory prices. In those situations, obviously it is very difficult to meet the demands of certain sectors of industry, and I am not apologetic about it; I am very upfront and frank about this when they meet me’.

He added that the Union Cabinet has approved the Semicon 2.0, aimed at strengthening India’s semiconductor design and manufacturing ecosystem, with a total budget outlay of Rs 1,27,500 crore. He said the government and private sector are expected to invest around $50 billion in semiconductors and allied industries in the next year and a half. He added that ‘once that is done, we will come out with semiconductors 3.0 because for us this is a journey’.
