Rupee strengthens against US dollar on Friday

Indian rupee has shown mild strength against US dollar on Friday amid Reserve Bank of India's (RBI) data showing a surge a in surplus liquidity in the banking system to a record high of Rs 9.71 lakh crore, boosted by flows received under the FCNR (B) scheme of the RBI. However, investors remained cautious as Brent crude oil prices continued to trade above $95 a barrel mark and foreign investors pullout capital from Indian markets. Foreign institutional investors were the net sellers on Thursday’s session, offloading securities worth Rs 2,345.87 crore. On the global front, British pound has strengthened against US dollar on Friday after Federal Reserve Governor Christopher Waller’s comments helped ease rising worries about interest rate hike by Federal Reserve this month. 

Finally, the rupee ended at 94.47 (Provisional), strengthened by 4 paise from its previous close of 94.51 on Thursday. The currency touched a high and low of 94.53 and 94.44 respectively.
