Indian benchmarks manage to trade in green during early noon deals
Sep-10-2026

In a highly volatile session, Indian equity benchmarks managed to trade in green during early afternoon deals but the upside remained capped, as the Middle East conflict showed no signs of easing and caution set in ahead of the release of crucial U.S. inflation data, which could influence the chances of a Federal Reserve rate hike on September 16.

Both indices, Sensex and Nifty, were trading higher, amid buying interest in select large-cap stocks. Traders got some relief, as Commerce Secretary Rajesh Agrawal said that the India-US trade deal has been “more or less” finalised, with both sides working on a framework for preferential market access before the agreement is signed at an appropriate time.

On the global front, all Asian markets were trading lower, as surging crude oil prices weighed on investor sentiment and raised concerns over global inflation risks and the outlook for interest rates amid escalating US-Iran tensions and growing concerns over disruptions to Middle East energy supplies.

The BSE Sensex is currently trading at 74848.83, up by 84.60 points or 0.11% after trading in a range of 74666.10 and 74910.96. There were 14 stocks advancing against 16 stocks declining on the index.

The top gaining sectoral indices on the BSE were Oil & Gas up by 0.28%, Bankex up by 0.26%, PSU up by 0.26%, Utilities up by 0.23% and Consumer Durables up by 0.09%, while Telecom down by 0.97%, Metal down by 0.72%, Capital Goods down by 0.67%, Basic Materials down by 0.38% and Healthcare down by 0.32% were the top losing indices on BSE.

Meanwhile, India and ASEAN countries have reaffirmed their shared commitment to building a more food-secure, sustainable and resilient agricultural future at the 9th ASEAN-India Ministerial Meeting on Agriculture and Forestry. The meeting was co-chaired by H.E. Francisco P. Tiu Laurel, Secretary, Department of Agriculture, the Philippines, and Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, India. It placed strong emphasis on practical, farmer-centred cooperation and on strengthening the ASEAN-India Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in agriculture and forestry.

The Ministers welcomed ASEAN 2045: Shared Future and the ASEAN Food, Agriculture and Forestry Sectoral Plan 2026-2030 as strategic frameworks for advancing sustainable and resilient development. They looked forward to the adoption and implementation of the ASEAN-India Medium-Term Plan of Action for Cooperation in Agriculture and Forestry 2026-2030, with priorities spanning policy dialogue, digital innovation, technology cooperation, joint research, capacity building and farmer exchanges.

The Meeting identified climate-resilient agriculture, low-emission rice, water productivity, AI-enabled digital agriculture, soil health, food safety, post-harvest management, the circular bioeconomy, agroforestry and resilient value chains as key areas for practical and scalable cooperation. The Ministers also stressed the importance of stronger linkages among research institutions, technology developers, extension agencies, the private sector and farmers to accelerate the wider adoption of agricultural innovations.

The Meeting further emphasised the need to strengthen market connectivity, value addition, and agricultural and forestry logistics, while recognising the need for greater collaboration to address emerging challenges, including climate change, extreme weather events, geopolitical and economic uncertainties, input-market volatility, trade disruptions, and transboundary pests and diseases.
