U.S. markets end lower on Monday
Sep-15-2026

U.S. markets ended lower on Monday, weighed down by losses in Nvidia and other chipmakers after top executives in U.S. artificial intelligence companies raised safety concerns and called for slowdown in the development of artificial intelligence (AI). Elevated crude oil prices, rising global bond yields and geopolitical tensions in the Middle East also weighed on sentiment. Traders weighed the inflation outlook and the possibility of a rate hike by the US Federal Reserve in this week’s policy meeting. On the sectoral front, semiconductor stocks showed a substantial move to the downside, dragging the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index down by 5.9 percent to its lowest closing level in well over a month. Significant weakness also remained visible among computer hardware stocks, as reflected by the 4.8 percent plunge by the NYSE Arca Computer Hardware Index. Oil service stocks also moved sharply lower on the day, with the Philadelphia Oil Service Index tumbling by 4.0 percent.

Dow Jones Industrial Average decreased by 152.09 points or 0.29 percent to 52,421.2, S&P 500 was down by 37 points or 0.48 percent to 7,619.98 and Nasdaq fell by 146.62 points or 0.56 percent to 26,186.41.
