India’s WPI inflation climbs to 9.92% in August amid firm food, fuel, manufacturing prices

India's wholesale price index (WPI) inflation rose in the month of August 2026 to 9.92 per cent, as compared to 9.78 per cent in July 2026, on rising prices of food, manufactured items, and fuel and power. The index for All Commodities for August 2026 also increased to 110.8, from 110.0 in July 2026.

Year-on-year inflation in the major WPI groups showed a mixed trend in August 2026. Inflation in Primary Articles eased to 7.76 per cent from 8.52 per cent in July, while Fuel and Power inflation rose to 22.93 per cent from 20.05 per cent. Inflation in Manufactured Products edged up to 8.37 per cent from 8.29 per cent during the same period. The corresponding indices stood at 118.1, 108.3 and 108.8 in August, compared with 117.2, 105.4 and 108.4 in July.

Further, WPI Food Index, consists of ‘Food Articles’ from Primary Articles major group, and ‘Manufacture of Food Products’ from Manufactured Products major group, observed a YoY inflation of 7.05 per cent in August 2026, compared to 6.65 per cent in July 2026.

Meanwhile, all India Output PPI for All Commodities for August 2026 stood at 110.8, whereas it was 109.9 in July 2026. Output PPIs for Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing; Mining and Quarrying; Manufactured Products; and Electricity were 116.5, 122.0, 109.7, and 90.9, respectively, in August 2026, whereas those were 115.6, 119.4, 108.8, and 92.4, respectively, in July 2026.
