Key gauges remain in green in morning deals
Sep-21-2026

Indian equity benchmarks continued to trade in green in morning deals, amid cooling crude oil prices, fresh foreign fund inflows and a positive trend in Asian equities. Traders took support with commerce ministry’s data showed India's exports to China, South Africa, Brazil and Russia grew 34 per cent to $19.9 billion in April-August 2026-27, led by a 39 per cent jump in shipments to China, highlighting the growing importance of the BRICS bloc for India's export growth.

Both Sensex and Nifty were trading in green in morning deals, but the indices showed a divergence in gains. The BSE Sensex was trading with gains of around half percent, supported by gains in select heavyweight stocks from sectors such as Consumer Durables, Healthcare and FMCG. Similarly, the Nifty 50 was trading marginally higher on account of buying in Sun Pharma, HDFC Life Insurance and HCL Technologies.

On the global front, Asian markets were trading mostly in green as crude oil prices continued to fall amid signs of increased diplomatic efforts to resolve the conflict and restore energy flows in the Middle East, easing concerns over global inflation and the prospect of further interest rate hikes.

The BSE Sensex is currently trading at 74654.87, up by 359.91 points or 0.48% after trading in a range of 74454.18 and 74787.26. There were 26 stocks advancing against 4 stocks declining on the index.

The top gaining sectoral indices on the BSE were Consumer Durables up by 1.25%, Healthcare up by 1.06%, FMCG up by 0.93%, Realty up by 0.87% and Basic Materials up by 0.40%, while Telecom down by 1.27%, TECK down by 0.48%, Power down by 0.11%, Auto down by 0.08% and IT down by 0.07% were the top losing indices on BSE.

Meanwhile, Economic Affairs Secretary Anuradha Thakur said that private investment will be crucial to achieving India’s Viksit Bharat goal, as public expenditure alone cannot bridge the massive financing gap. The Secretary highlighted the sovereign rating upgrades from major international rating agencies received by India over the past one-and-a-half years, and said such global recognition underscores India's growing economic strength, improving business climate, and strengthening position in the global investment landscape.

Thakur said India has a firm promise to build on the goals it has already achieved and reach new heights, adding that Centre-state partnership on policy issues, financial resource mobilisation and implementation can decisively advance the country towards Viksit Bharat. Earlier this month, Japanese credit rating agency JCR had upgraded India's sovereign rating to 'A-', a feat achieved after a gap of 35 years, citing solid economic growth and a strong financial system. Last year, India's sovereign rating was upgraded by three agencies, S&P Global Ratings (BBB), Japan's Rating and Investment Information, Inc. (BBB+) and Morningstar DBRS (BBB).

The rating upgrades reflected global recognition for India's strong and resilient macroeconomic fundamentals and prudent fiscal management, and underscore global confidence in India's medium-term growth prospects amid prevailing global uncertainties. Thakur said ‘This kind of global recognition goes to underscore India's growing economic strength, improving business climate, and strengthening position in the global investment landscape.’

The CNX Nifty is currently trading at 23372.75, up by 26.35 points or 0.11% after trading in a range of 23314.80 and 23410.75. There were 33 stocks advancing against 17 stocks declining on the index.
