Markets likely to make positive start amid optimistic global cues
Sep-22-2026

Indian equity markets are likely to make a positive start on Tuesday, tracking strong cues from global markets, supported by softening crude oil prices and a retreat in Treasury yields. However, traders may remain cautious as foreign institutional investors (FIIs) turned net sellers on Monday, offloading equities worth Rs 576.20 crore.

Some of the key factors to be watched:

Key infra sectors growth slows to 4.8% in August: The latest government data has showed that production growth of nine key infrastructure sectors slowed down to 4.8 per cent in August due to a fall in the output of coal, natural gas, crude oil, and fertiliser. The output expanded by 6.2 per cent in the same month last year and by 5 per cent in July this year.

India, Canada to hold next trade pact talks from October 5: Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said the negotiations for a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) between India and Canada are progressing and the next round of talks will be held from October 5.

India's steel demand to grow domestically: Indian Steel Association President Naveen Jindal said India's lower per capita steel consumption compared to the global average leaves ample headroom for domestic output to be absorbed locally.

Global front: U.S. markets ended higher on Monday lifted by gains in AI stocks, while Treasury yields retreated from recent highs and crude prices tumbled to an 11-day low on speculation about a potential breakthrough in Middle East talks at a UN meeting this week. Asian markets are trading mostly in green on Tuesday following overnight rally on Wall Street.

Back home, Indian equity benchmarks ended higher on Monday, as oil prices extended slide and global bond yields dipped amid hopes that diplomatic efforts could help ease tensions in West Asia. Fresh foreign fund inflows and a positive trend in global equities also supported the markets. Finally, the BSE Sensex rose 564.03 points or 0.76% to 74,858.99 and the CNX Nifty was up by 67.90 points or 0.29% to 23,414.30.

Some of the important factors in trade:
