Govt to hold separate meetings to resolve key demands of recycling industry: G Kishan Reddy
Sep-22-2026

Union Minister for Coal and Mines, G Kishan Reddy has said that the government will hold separate meetings to address key demands and concerns of the recycling industry. He highlighted the strategic importance of critical minerals recycling for India's clean energy transition, defence preparedness, digital economy and advanced manufacturing.

Reddy said India could emerge as a significant secondary source of critical minerals by recovering valuable materials from waste, thereby reducing dependence on conventional mining as well as the environmental burden associated with it. Amid industry demands for fast-track reforms, he said ‘through a whole-of-government approach, we heard issues involving multiple ministries.’

The minister said the central government is formulating an incentive scheme for critical mineral recycling and has allocated around Rs 34,000 crore toward critical mineral development. He said the government has also proposed establishing Centres of Excellence across IITs and other technology institutions to support research into mineral recovery and processing technologies. He stressed the need for a whole-of-government and society-wide approach, with employment generation, reverse logistics and domestic processing forming the backbone of the recycling ecosystem.
