Indian rupee strengthens against US dollar on Tuesday
Sep-22-2026

Indian rupee has strengthened against US dollar on Tuesday, as global crude oil prices continued to retreat from their recent highs. The Brent crude oil prices have declined by nearly 2% to trade below $99 a barrel amid private reports suggesting that Iran will reopen the Strait of Hormuz within seven days if US States takes initial steps toward easing military pressure. Further, investors remained optimistic after Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal has said that the negotiations for a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) between India and Canada are progressing and the next round of talks will be held from October 5, 2026. On the global front, British pound has weakened against the US dollar on Tuesday after UK’s budget deficit widened to 18.3 billion pound in August, higher that forecasted deficit of 15.5 billion pound.

Finally, the rupee ended at 95.62 (Provisional), strengthened by 16 paise from its previous close of 95.78 on Monday. The currency touched a high and low of 95.85 and 95.55 respectively.
