Mayawati appoints Ishan Anand as BSP's National Coordinator
Sep-23-2026

The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) appointed Ishan Anand, younger nephew of party president Mayawati, as its new national coordinator, following the removal of his elder brother Akash Anand from a key organisational position.

The decision was announced at an All-India Review Meeting of the BSP's national executive held at the party headquarters in Lucknow and chaired by BSP chief Mayawati. She directed party workers to put in all their efforts to ensure electoral victory in forthcoming elections in various states, including Uttar Pradesh. Mayawati also urged party workers to rise above personal attachments, relationships and individual interests and focus solely on the objective of forming a government.

Ishan, in his address after his appointment, thanked Mayawati for entrusting him with the ‘big responsibility’ of national coordinator and said he would discharge it with ‘full honesty and dedication’. Paying homage to Dr B.R. Ambedkar and Kanshi Ram, he said carrying forward their unfinished work of making the Bahujan Samaj self-reliant would remain his priority.

Ishan's appointment comes against the backdrop of a series of changes involving Mayawati's family in the BSP. On September 3, Mayawati removed Akash Anand from the post of chief national coordinator, saying he needed greater maturity and that it would not be appropriate to entrust him with major responsibilities at that stage.
