U.S. markets end higher amid easing oil prices
Sep-26-2026

U.S. markets ended higher on Friday, as crude oil prices pulled back sharply after surging over the previous two sessions, amid new reports indicating that Iran had submitted a proposal to the U.S. to end the war and reopen the Strait of Hormuz within seven days. Sentiment remained upbeat as revised data released by the University of Michigan on Friday showed that U.S. consumer sentiment deteriorated less than previously estimated in September. The University of Michigan said its consumer sentiment index for September was upwardly revised to 48.1 from the preliminary reading of 47.8.

However, gains were limited as a report released by the Commerce Department on Friday showed that new orders for U.S. manufactured durable goods unexpectedly came in nearly flat in August. The Commerce Department said durable goods orders were virtually unchanged in August following a downwardly revised 0.9 percent increase in July. The Street had expected durable goods orders to decrease by 0.4 percent, compared to the 1.1 percent jump reported for the previous month.

Dow Jones Industrial Average surged by 478.64 points or 0.93 percent to 51,828.62, S&P 500 decreased by 39.28 points or 0.51 percent to 7,743.41, and Nasdaq increased by 129.34 points or 0.48 percent to 27,068.72.
