Local equities continue weak trend in morning deals
Sep-29-2026

Indian equity benchmarks continued to show a sluggish trend in morning session, with losses of around 0.80% each, as elevated crude oil prices due to uncertainty over the West Asia situation and foreign fund outflows weighed on investors' sentiment. Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) offloaded equities worth Rs 5,353.22 crore on Monday, according to exchange data. Traders overlooked Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal’s statement that India's merchandise exports increased by 15 per cent up to September 21 in the current financial year (FY27) despite global economic uncertainties arising from ongoing conflicts. On the global front, Asian markets are trading lower following the broadly negative cues from Wall Street overnight, amid a substantial rebound in both crude oil prices and bond yields, renewing concerns about the outlook for global inflation and interest rates.

Meanwhile, Union Minister G Kishan Reddy has said there is no shortage of coal in India even as higher thermal power demand, monsoon-related disruptions in mining and lower hydropower generation. Reddy stated ‘There is no shortage of coal. We are supplying by rakes and road’.

He said thermal power demand had risen by around 12-15 per cent due to a decline in hydropower generation, while monsoon conditions had also affected coal mining operations. Besides, he said the temporary disruptions should not be construed as a coal shortage and asserted that the overall situation was normal.

Earlier in this month, he had said that the coal companies have 100 million tonnes of coal in transit, and power companies have 23 days of coal stock. The production of coal increased with a reduction in rains in the country.
