Indian rupee weakens against US dollar on Thursday
Oct-08-2026

Indian rupee has weakened against US dollar on Thursday as tensions in West Asia fuelled the global crude oil prices. The Brent crude oil prices were trading near the $105 a barrel mark after reports indicated that US is planning to strike Iran before the US midterm elections. The rupee also faced pressure as US bond yields continued their upward trajectory, while foreign institutional investors (FIIs) kept pulling capital out of Indian markets. FIIs were the net sellers on Wednesday’s session, offloading securities worth Rs 6,121.37 crore. On the global front, Japanese yen has weakened against the US dollar on Thursday amid rise in crude prices and high US bond yields.

Finally, the rupee ended at 96.88 (Provisional), weakened by 13 paise from its previous close of 96.75 on Wednesday. The currency touched a high and low of 96.88 and 96.65 respectively.
