Indian rupee strengthens against US dollar amid easing oil prices, US bond yields
Oct-09-2026

Indian rupee has strengthened against US dollar on Friday, supported ease in crude oil prices and US bond yields. The Brent crude oil prices have retreated after US President Donald Trump signaled that any potential military action against Iran would be paused until after the midterm elections. Moreover, likely intervention from the central bank offered a crucial cushion to the domestic unit. Some support also came as Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal expressed confidence that India would achieve $1 trillion in exports of goods and services during the current fiscal (FY27) despite a challenging global economic environment. On the global front, Japanese yen has weakened against the US dollar on Friday amid continuous pressure from the wide interest rate gap between the US and Japan.

Finally, the rupee ended at 96.69 (Provisional), strengthened by 19 paise from its previous close of 96.88 on Thursday. The currency touched a high and low of 96.77 and 96.51 respectively.
