Benchmarks likely to make flat-to-positive start on Tuesday
Oct-13-2026

Indian equity markets are likely to make a flat-to-positive start on Tuesday despite weak cues from global markets. Sentiments may remain subdued as foreign institutional investors (FIIs) continued their selling spree, offloading equities worth Rs 1,708.48 crore on Monday.

Some of the key factors to be watched:

Retail inflation surges to 5.54% in September: Retail inflation, measured by the All India Consumer Price Index (CPI) with the base year 2024, rose to 5.54% (Provisional) in September 2026 from 4.83% (Final) for August 2026, amid persistently high food prices. The CPI reading remained above the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI's) medium-term inflation target of 4%.

On the global front: The US markets ended mostly in red on Monday as traders seemed reluctant to make significant moves ahead of the earnings season and the release of key inflation data in the coming days. Asian markets were trading mostly lower on Tuesday following the negative cues from Wall Street overnight.

Back home, Indian equity benchmarks erased opening gains and ended over half percent lower on Monday weighed down by selling pressure in FMCG, TECK and IT stocks. Besides, a fresh spike in crude oil prices, unabated foreign fund outflows and rising bond yields dented investors' sentiment. Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) offloaded equities worth Rs 3,568.90 crore on Friday, according to exchange data. Finally, the BSE Sensex fell 547.65 points or 0.76% to 71,924.68 and the CNX Nifty was down by 157.10 points or 0.70% to 22,363.35.
