Key gauges continue to trade higher in morning deals
Oct-13-2026

Indian equity benchmarks continued to trade higher in morning deals, shrugging off weak Asian cues, as IT and TECK stock led early gains. Traders took support as the International Monetary Fund (IMF), in its October World Economic Outlook (WEO), has revised upward India’s economic growth projection by 60 basis points (bps) to 7.0% for the fiscal year 2026-27 (FY27) and by 30 bps to 7.0% for FY28, compared with its July 2026 WEO update. Some support also came as US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor has said that India and America are expanding cooperation across sectors, including defence, information technology (IT) and healthcare. However, investors remained cautious amid inflation concerns, elevated crude oil prices, and geopolitical uncertainty. On the global front, Asian markets were trading mostly in red following the mixed cues from Wall Street overnight, on spiking crude oil prices and supply concerns amid continued escalation in the Middle East conflict in violation of the Russia-Ukraine ‘energy ceasefire’.

Gor highlighted the growing partnership between the two countries, citing recent military exercises, defence cooperation and investments by US and Indian companies.

He said ‘India and the US have a great relationship, there’s so much happening; pick any sector and we’re working together in it.’ Pointing to recent developments in defence cooperation, he said the two countries conducted military exercises involving more than 500 troops during Exercise Tarang Shakti at the Jodhpur Air Force Station in Rajasthan.

Besides, he said that Indian and American companies were making good progress in technology and investment, with both countries investing in each other and some American firms setting up large production facilities in India. Moreover, he underlined India’s importance in the healthcare sector, particularly in the supply of generic medicines to the US. He asserted ‘In healthcare, we import a significant amount of our generic pharmaceuticals from India. This is because we trust India.’
